Luke 5:4–9
When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch”.
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets”. When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken.
When Jesus came to the disciples, got into Simon’s boat and said to them, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch”, he knew the number of fish that they would catch. He waited to see what the disciples would do on hearing His command. Would they obey? The disciples though, were experienced fisherman. They had toiled all night and caught nothing. They were tired and discouraged but they chose to obey what Jesus asked them to do.
In 1997 the Lord Jesus spoke to Lorraine Addison through this very scripture. He knew the women who needed support, encouragement and prayer in the midst of their unequally yoked situation. The Lord waited to see if Lorraine obeyed. She did! Praise God! He has filled the nets full of fish since then. The Lord faithfully meets each one of these women in support groups at the point of her need. He has raised up many hands to partner in this ministry with prayer and outreach to these women. Jesus’ grace and glory is evident that He will as Ephesians 3:20 states, “do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us”.
